Fourteen people were killed by eight states so far this year, the Death Penalty Information Center reports. The methods ranged from lethal injection to nitrogen hypoxia to firing squad.

The eight states are Alabama (2), Arizona (1), Florida (3), Indiana (1), Oklahoma (1), South Carolina (2), Louisiana (1), and Texas (3).

South Carolina and Louisiana resumed executions this year after long hiatuses — 15 years for each — caused by an inability to obtain lethal injection drugs. South Carolina killed Brad Sigmon by firing squad, and Louisiana killed Jessie Hoffman using nitrogen gas, the state’s first execution by that method.

The most common method of execution remains lethal injection, which accounted for ten killings; two were killed by nitrogen hypoxia, and two by firing squad.
