Art of San Quentin

It’s not often we can share inspiring or uplifting information these days, but Nicola White, a London-based artist, has been working with prisoners at San Quentin to help them get their paintings, essays, poetry and other writings out in the world.

So she created this beautiful website to showcase the work. It will take your breath away. Each artist has his own page, and the artwork ranges from pencil and ink portraits to acrylic paintings.

Proceeds of the sales of the work go toward helping prisoners buy more art materials, and some is donated to charity, White says.

White is working on an exhibit she hopes to have open to the public in January in Marin County, featuring many of the artists whose work is displayed on ArtReach. We’ll let you know details as soon as everything is in place.
