Moderated by DPF President Mike Farrell, in conversation with Robert D. Bacon, Natasha Minsker, and Molly C. Sheahan, the discussion will focus on why Gov. Gavin Newsom must act now to grant clemency to the 620 people sentenced to death in California.

Robert D. Bacon

Robert Bacon practices law in Oakland, California. Since 1990, he has represented clients under California death sentences. In addition to representing his clients and assisting other capital litigation teams, he is active in systemic work for criminal justice reform. Before 1990, Bob had shorter careers in court management and prosecution. He is a graduate of Stanford University and King Hall School of Law at UC Davis.

Natasha Minsker
Natasha Minsker

Natasha Minsker is an attorney and consultant focusing on criminal justice and political advocacy. Natasha spent 14 years at the ACLU, most recently serving as the Director of the ACLU of California Center for Advocacy & Policy, the office responsible for advancing the ACLU’s civil liberties and civil rights agenda in the State Capitol. She also served as the Associate Director of the ACLU of Northern California and, before that, as the Director of the ACLU of California’s Death Penalty Policy Project. In that role, she led the 2012 ballot initiative campaign to repeal the death penalty. She is a graduate of Stanford Law School and Cornell University.

Molly C Sheahan
Molly C. Sheahan

Molly C. Sheahan is the Associate Director for Healthy Families at the California Catholic Conference, the public policy arm for the California bishops. Molly advocates in the state legislature on policies that help families thrive and lift the most vulnerable, including those sentenced to death. She graduated magna cum laude with a Master of Theological Studies from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies in Marriage and Family and holds a bachelor’s in communications from the Franciscan University of Steubenville.
